Camp Mardela’s King Retreat Center was constructed in 1992.
The Retreat Center is Camp Mardela’s only winterized facility, which allows it to be used year round.
The King Retreat Center offers a “home sized” kitchen, a dining room with seating for approximately 24 persons, and a living room/meeting area. In addition to traditional furnishings in the living room, tables and chairs are also available, which can be used for work sessions or to expand the dining possibilities. Other items such as an easel, marker board, overhead projector, TV/VCR, and electric piano are available by request.
The King Retreat Center offers two different styles of sleeping accommodations. The two dorm rooms above the kitchen and living room each hold 4 bunk beds, for a total capacity of 16. Each dorm has its own full bath. The other half of the Retreat Center holds six “motel style” bedrooms. Each bedroom has two twin sized beds and a half bath. One roll-out cot can also be made available for each room, creating a maximum room capacity of 3, or 18 total. The six rooms share two full baths with showers: one located on the upstairs hallway, and one downstairs.
The two styles of sleeping accommodations combine to offer the potential of 36 beds in the King Retreat Center.
It should be noted that groups using the Retreat Center in the winter will not have access to the Krabill Hall kitchen and dining facilities. For this reason, the King Retreat Center is most comfortable for groups of 30 or fewer. A maximum group size of 36 is suggested for groups using only the Retreat Center.
